Pressing Botanicals
One of the most beautiful Mother’s Day gifts I’ve ever received from my husband was this handmade flower press. Made of live edge, air-dried walnut and finished with a French polish and wax, it literally took my breath away! Until then, I had used whatever heavy books I could find around the house to press botanicals. -

Have you ever wondered what the difference is between a viola and a pansy? Viola is actually the genus under which there are over 500 different species. Among those species are pansies. -

My Secret Garden in the Woods
Like many of you, my love affair with gardening began as a child. I have fond memories of my grandma walking me around her backyard, with my skinned knees and pigtails, showing me how beautiful it was to grow things. Since then, I’d always dreamed of a big garden. One with a maze of raised beds and archways, trellises and arbors, and gravel paths wide enough to pull a wagon for hauling bountiful harvests. A place to retreat to when I need a moment of solace. It would be the garden I would cherish the rest of my days. -

Homemade Calendula Salve
Last summer's calendula has been put to great use. In addition to saving hundreds of seeds, I have enjoyed making infused calendula oils, lotion bars and salves. To infuse oil in this way is to infuse it with history. Calendula salve is a wonderful skin care remedy to have on hand in your home, as it can help sooth dry skin, rashes, bug bites, minor cuts and scrapes, and minor burns too. It is versatile and gentle enough for all ages to use, making it great for gifting as well.
