Mossy Children's Botanical Craft
One of my favorite children's authors and illustrators is Jan Brett, known for her richly detailed and beautifully crafted children's storybooks. Her works often draw on themes of nature, folklore, and cultural traditions, bringing stories to life with intricate illustrations that captivate even the youngest of readers. Since our children were very young, we've been collecting her storybooks. After first reading Mossy, I had the idea of turning this sweet tale into a craft, most suited for children ages two to six.

A Curated List of Children's Garden-Themed Stories
During our garden and botany homeschool unit, which was held every morning outside at our big table in the middle of our garden, we read the book, How Does My Garden Grow by Gerda Muller. Within a few pages, it had inspired all three of my children to ask for their own garden plots and wanted to sow seeds right then. -
Fairy Pumpkin Cottage
Here at Cedar House Farm, building a pumpkin fairy cottage has quickly become one of my children’s favorite autumn traditions. It is an opportunity for our family to forage in the fresh air, brainstorm and create together with natural materials. It's an opportunity for your children to let their imaginations run wild and for us to witness how much joy outdoor adventures bring them. And the end product provides weeks of imaginary play. -
More Time in Nature
This year, the kids and I have a goal of spending 1000 hours outside! We printed off a gorgeous free tracker from 1000 Hours Outside and have it hanging proudly on our wall and easily accessible to the kids when they come inside. I hope you will consider downloading it too! It can be catered to what works best for your family and is a beautiful way to encourage time outdoors together in nature.
