Pages from Italy: Novels That Stayed With Me
To visit Venice, Italy is to want to understand her history. To want to know her story. The most unforgettable memory I have from this magical place was stepping out of the train station and watching my children take it all in. To me, she was the city of birds and bells and a maze of hidden alleyways. Worn stone beneath our feet. Birds overhead. Wandering alongside the canals without a plan. Truly a dream come true visit.
My favorite novels set in Venice:
The Venice Sketchbook by Rhys Bowen
The Midwife of Venice by Roberta Rich

And here are my very favorite historical fiction novels set throughout Italy (and many which had been recommended to me and purchased in small bookshops throughout Italy):
In the Company of the Courtesan by Sarah Dunant
The Shoemaker’s Wife by Adriana Trigiani
The Botticelli Secret by Marina Fiorato
The Birth of Venus by Sarah Dunant
The Glassblower of Murano by Marina Fiorato
The Night Portrait by Laura Morelli
The Stolen Lady by Laura Morelli
The Letter Carrier by Francesca Giannone

And a nonfiction worth an honorable mention:
The Land Where Lemons Grow: The Story of Italy and its Citrus Fruit by Helena Attlee

Tell me, are there any must reads I’ve missed that should be added to my TBR shelf?
