A Vintage-Inspired Bearded Iris

I'm absolutely captivated by these vintage-inspired bearded irises we planted a couple of years ago. Truth be told, I'd never been particularly drawn to this flower until I discovered these stunning varieties. But one morning, walking down our pathway, this beauty stopped me cold. Now I'm completely enchanted.

There's something rather magical about the iris when you learn its story. The flower takes its name from the ancient Greek Goddess Iris, a divine messenger between heaven and earth—which is why the iris symbolizes "message" above all else. Beyond that, it carries meanings of faith, hope, wisdom, truth, and positive change. Throughout history, the iris has held remarkable significance: it graced the gowns of Queen Elizabeth I, appeared on Victorian coats of arms, and served as the symbol of French royalty for centuries. Queen Elizabeth II herself wore an iris brooch regularly, honoring the flower's deep importance to her family's legacy. The iris has also captivated some of history's greatest artists—da Vinci, Renoir, van Gogh, and Monet all immortalized it in their work.
